Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by a family of musicians, Mars began making music at a young age. His parents are Pete Hernandez, a Puerto Rican and Bernadette "Bernie" a Filipino. They met while performing on where his mother was a Hula dancer and his father played percussion.
